An Ugly Win At Last

Wigan 0
(...)

The Arse
1
(Adebayor 88th)

I didn't bother staying up to watch live for this one, knowing that the team was tired and that we'd be lucky to scrape all 3 points. Plus I was having a tender stomach, having had a mild gastric attack on Monday night.

A fellow Gooner did - being older, more optimistic and self-employed - and it didn't help his blood pressure much.

Wigan adopted the crunchy approach that we had seen so many adopt against us this season and they dominated the first half.

But Kolo Toure was back after serving a one-match ban and the defence reportedly showed a resilience matching the display at Stamford Bridge.

Replacing the woeful Senderos at centre, both Toure and Djourou kept the Wigan pack at bay.

Baptista and Walcott started while Cesc was benched and came on for Flamini very late in the game.

Adebayor displayed his usual low conversion rate again - missing two open goals before latching to a superb chip from Cesc and did to Wigan what he did to Manure i.e. scored a late, late winner.

Wigan deserved a point from their display - 15 attempts and 7 on target compared to the Arse's 9 shots (3 on target) but it was not their day.

The steely resolve that took Stamford Bridge by storm was there to be seen in this match but in a more refined manner, fatigue being a major factor in this game.

Le Capitaine will be out until January because of a stubborn hamstring injury (his sciatic nerve problem satisfactorily resolved) but Gilberto has shown himself to be an able and mature leader in his stead.

Fellow Frenchman William Gallas is also still recovering from a thigh injury but while Djourou, Hoyte and Eboue has capitalised on their opportunities to show their capabilities, Adebayor and van Pussie has not been convincing enough.

Still, learning to win the Moana way (Chelshitely) is good for this young side. In time they'll learn to decide the right approach to adopt for different teams.

Hopefully.

Adik Bayor, remember this. Whenever you score - NEVER, EVER do the robot dance.

Henry doesn't look good in maroon. This is why he's underperforming.

merujuk kepada game dgn pompey malam tadi, Adik Bayour akhirnya mebuktiktan bahwa dia worth utk dibayour gaji. kalau menang kan best. Tapi, seri pun OK la dari kalah kat emirates for the first time.
